SPALATO
La seconda città più grande della Repubblica di Croazia e la più grande città croata sulla costa orientale del Mar Adriatico si trova tra il fiume Žrnovnica a est e Jadran a ovest. La città che offre l’ombra dei boschi mariani nella parte occidentale della penisola, 15 km di passeggiata lungo il mare e un canto dalmata sulle strade di pietra del centro storico, situato in una delle zone più soleggiate del Mediterraneo, è anche noto per i suoi benefici climatici, misurabili attraverso 2700 ore di sole all’anno. Il centro della città è costituito dall’antico palazzo di Diocleziano del IV secolo (sotto la protezione dell’UNESCO dal 1979), che è un esempio unico al mondo. Il santo patrono di Spalato è Saint Dujam (Saint Duje), vescovo di Salona, un martire del 304, e i patroni sono Santa Anastasia (Staš) e la Beata Rajneria (Arnir). Il santo patrono è particolarmente onorato dalla Madonna di Pojasana.
Spalato è un importante centro culturale croato e mediterraneo, oggi ha le dimensioni del centro universitario in Croazia, e in seguito, Zagabria ha il maggior numero di organizzazioni internazionali diplomatiche, consolari o rappresentative in Croazia.
